"We have a rule - if you're not solving climate change, you don't get in the building," explains Andrew Wandsworth, CEO and co-founder of Sustainable Ventures. The firm, established in 2011, aims to support climate-focused tech start-ups, making County Hall home to over 120 firms striving for a greener future. Their collective mission unites them despite diverse approaches to addressing climate issues, highlighting a vibrant hub of innovation.
Reflecting the eco-tech work, the interior of the building is transformed, featuring modern designs amidst the historical decor. "On the wall in the foyer is what looks like a large artwork...but is actually a form of 'living wall'." This innovative feature not only beautifies the space but also plays a key role in improving air quality by absorbing pollutants and regulating temperature, showcasing practical sustainability in action.
"Everybody here has a common purpose. They're all doing different things, they're all looking at different sectors, but everybody has that common mission," Mr Wandsworth says. This collective commitment creates a collaborative atmosphere among the tech start-ups, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change.
