Hundreds protest in London as jailed climate activists' appeals are heard
Briefly

In London, protesters gathered outside the high court to demonstrate against the jailing of 16 climate activists appealing their sentences. The activists, associated with Just Stop Oil, received a collective 41-year prison sentence for their protests. Organizers of the rally, including Tim Crosland from Defend Our Juries, condemned this jailing as a violation of democracy and the rule of law, asserting that the activists were trying to inform the public about the environmental impacts of fossil fuels. Supporters displayed placards likening the jailed activists to historical political prisoners, emphasizing the erosion of peaceful protest rights.
It's not upholding a rule of law. What those people have been jailed for is trying to get information to the public that the fossil fuel companies have been systematically concealing from the public for decades.
Hundreds of people turning out to send a message to this court that silencing and jailing people trying to get good information to the public is not OK.
We are here in solidarity with the 16 defendants who were given draconian sentences last year for entirely peaceful protest.
