Next year marks the 200th anniversary of the first passenger railway. Heritage railways across the UK will sound their whistles in a grand 'Whistle-Off' at noon on New Year's Day.
Railway 200 will include a plethora of events across the country, culminating in September with celebrations in Stockton and Darlington, where it all began with the S&DR.
A touring exhibition train named 'Inspiration' will travel through the UK, visiting mainline stations and heritage railways, all aimed at celebrating the rich history of railways.
Discounted train travel will be part of the Railway 200 celebrations, allowing people to explore railway heritage and take advantage of many exciting events throughout the year.
