Over 300 civilian staff members at the Metropolitan Police plan a two-week strike starting February 4 in response to management's threat to dock pay for remote work. Previously, these employees, represented by the PCS Union, had opted for non-compliance instead of striking. Frustration grew following a 2023 hybrid working policy that mandated 60% office attendance. PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote criticized the Metropolitan Police for their hardline stance, suggesting it worsened relations and forced staff to act against their initial desire to avoid disruption.
Our members take their jobs very seriously and didn't want to disrupt the important work they do, but now they feel their hands have been forced.
This hardline approach by Met Police managers has been completely counter-productive, effectively escalating the dispute.
