HS2 completes first of two 5-mile tunnels under West London
Briefly

Macolm Codling, HS2's Client Director for the London Tunnels, stated, 'This is our first breakthrough for the Northolt Tunnel and is the result of many years of hard work from our tunnelling contractor.' He emphasized that they are on schedule to complete the first tunnel for HS2 trains under London by the end of 2025.
The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), Sushila, completed its five-mile dig by penetrating a hidden wall into a giant foam-filled can, enabling it to manage water pressure effectively.
The TBM Sushila has excavated over 1.2 million tonnes of earth, which has been placed in designated areas to create wildlife meadows, contributing to HS2's environmental initiatives.
The innovative method of using a foam-filled can during the TBM's arrival at Greenford was adopted to combat high ground water pressure and prevent flooding in the shaft.
