Heathrow Airport: flights slowly resume after 'unprecedented' fire cut power to Europe's busiest airport
Briefly

A fire at a nearby electrical substation caused substantial disruptions at London Heathrow, resulting in the cancellation of over 30 flights between Irish airports and Heathrow. More than 1,500 passengers were diverted to Shannon Airport from transatlantic flights. While some flights resumed later in the day and Aer Lingus planned to operate a normal schedule the following day, the incident had already impacted over 1,300 flights and nearly 291,000 passengers. Although British police are investigating the fire, there is no indication of foul play.
"Obviously the route between Dublin and Heathrow is the second busiest route in Europe, and therefore that caused a significant challenge today for commuters to and from Dublin in relation to Heathrow."
