Michael Ward, the managing director of Harrods, expressed deep regret for the allegations against the late Mohamed Al Fayed, acknowledging the serious nature of the claims made by hundreds of women.
In discussing the culture at Harrods under Mr. Al Fayed, Ward criticized it as a 'toxic culture of secrecy, intimidation, fear of repercussion and sexual misconduct,' referring to the allegation as part of a 'shameful period'.
He noted that no formal complaints were made during his tenure alongside Al Fayed, despite public rumors surrounding his behavior, illustrating the challenges in addressing misconduct at the time.
As part of the ongoing internal review initiated by Harrods' new owners, the Qatar Investment Authority, Ward stepped down from his roles outside the company, highlighting the company's response to the serious allegations.
