Firefighters were called to the vehicle fire on Mabley Street in Homerton at around 2.30am on Tuesday, where a lorry had burst into flames after crashing into a railway bridge.
Large flames engulfed the front of the lorry on the residential street, and its burnt wreck remained at the scene hours later, with about 15 firefighters sent to control the blaze.
Two men left the vehicle before the London Fire Brigade arrived. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries as firefighters managed to contain the fire.
The road remained closed on Tuesday with the 488 bus diverted due to the incident, while a warning on travel data site Inrix noted the railway bridge was struck by the vehicle.
