GWR coat of arms mosaic finds permanent home
Briefly

The Great Western Railway (GWR) coat of arms mosaic was recently unveiled at Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire, marking its new permanent display. Previously located at London’s Paddington station, the mosaic has historical roots, having represented the GWR from 1927 to 1933 and again from 1942 until 1947. Antiques expert Paul Atterbury highlighted the considerable budget allocated to this project, emphasizing its importance in creating something beautiful. Peter Rance from the Great Western Trust noted that the mosaic represents a legacy for future generations, encapsulating a piece of railway history in the region.
The budget for this project was "huge" but people agreed to spend the money because "they were making something wonderful".
The Great Western Railway Coat of Arms was a logo that appeared on GWR rolling stock from 1927 to 1933, and again from 1942 until nationalisation.
It's our gift now to future generations.”
Antiques expert Paul Atterbury explained that the mosaic previously lay on the floor of London’s Paddington station, showcasing its historical significance.
