Greta Thunberg was detained by police in The Hague after joining activists to block a major highway demanding an end to subsidies for fossil fuels.
The Extinction Rebellion campaign group has been active in protests, including blocking highways more than 30 times, to push for stronger action against the climate crisis.
Thunberg's activism, which started with weekly protests in 2018, has led to a global youth movement demanding urgent measures to address the climate emergency.
