TfL has announced a further closure of the Blackwall Tunnel, with southbound routes closing from 00:01 BST on 6 September until 05:00 on 8 September to facilitate the finishing touches for the new Silvertown Tunnel, set to open in 2025. Nick Fairholme emphasized that these essential closures are crucial in preparing the tunnel for its upcoming launch.
The Blackwall Tunnel has experienced a series of closures throughout the year, and with the introduction of the Silvertown Tunnel in 2025, drivers will face charges of up to 4 during peak times for crossing the Thames. With alternative routes like the Woolwich Ferry and Tower Bridge expected to see increased traffic, TfL has announced that the 108 bus will divert services during the southbound closure.
