First UK case of potentially deadly strain mpox detected in London
Briefly

The risk to the UK population from the Clade Ib mpox strain remains low, according to the UK Health Security Agency, despite the recent travel-related case.
Mpox, which is a rare infection found mainly in parts of central and east Africa, spreads through close contact, making the risk of transmission in the UK minimal.
The person diagnosed with the Mpox strain was initially on holiday in Africa and developed symptoms after traveling back to the UK, leading to swift isolation and tracing.
Professor Susan Hopkins stated, 'It is thanks to our surveillance that we have been able to detect this virus,' highlighting the importance of monitoring disease outbreaks.
