The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms in London from 9pm on Friday, July 18, until 9pm on Saturday, July 19. Thundery rain, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to affect much of England. Rain may be torrential, with high amounts possible in a short time. Further thunderstorms may develop on Saturday afternoon. The warning includes advice on potential delays to train services, loss of power, and impacts on driving conditions due to flooding and hazardous weather.
The Met Office has warned that thundery rain, lightning, and gusty winds will also cover London. Thundery rain will reach the south of the warning area later Friday before spreading north to affect much of England through Saturday.
Rain will likely be locally torrential, bringing 20-30 mm in less than an hour in many places, with 60-90 mm in less than three hours possible in a few places.
As well as heavy rain, impacts from frequent lightning, gusty winds, and large hail are also likely. Residents are advised of potential delays to train services and possible flooding.
Driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water, and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.
