"Eurostar services have resumed after a day of travel chaos caused by a power supply fault that disrupted the plans of hundreds of passengers. But Eurostar has warned that further significant delays are likely, advising passengers to postpone their journeys as services that have not been cancelled will be subject to severe delays or last-minute cancellations. One traveller, Ronan, 28, told The Standard that he'd planned to spend New Year's Eve partying with his friends in Paris, but had to reschedule his train to January 1. Every year, something seems to happen around this time of year, he said."
"The pair had just completed an 11-hour flight and were planning to spend the week in Paris, including New Year's Eve. We already had a hotel booked in Paris, Morotti said, Now we don't know if we can go. Castro added. They were offered a refund or a rescheduled ticket for the next day, but said no accommodation or food was provided. Probably not, Morotti said when asked if a hotel would be covered. Not even a place to sit."
Eurostar services resumed following widespread cancellations caused by an overhead power supply fault combined with a broken-down LeShuttle train, but significant delays and further cancellations are expected. Eurostar advised passengers to postpone journeys since services not cancelled may face severe disruption. Hundreds of passengers experienced disrupted plans, rescheduled journeys, or cancellations. Ronan, 28, postponed a New Year’s trip to Paris to January 1 and recalled similar disruption in 2023 due to flooding. Isabela Morotti, 17, and Luan Castro, 23, arrived after an 11-hour flight only to have their train cancelled; they were offered refunds or rescheduled tickets but no accommodation or food.
