The Enfield Council has implemented a High Court injunction to prevent unlawful gatherings of boy racers, aiming to mitigate risks to public safety in the borough.
Police reported that these illegal races attract over 300 high-performance vehicles, resulting in significant safety hazards on major roads and retail parks, often involving inexperienced drivers.
Sergeant Mark Wells highlighted that the reckless stunts pose immense risks to spectators, noting that rookie drivers often feel pressured by crowds to accelerate dangerously.
Reports indicated that from 2022 to 2023, there were 16 fatal crashes tied to racing behavior, underlining the serious safety implications of these activities.
