The Metropolitan Police's Central North Command arrested 17 men in late January as part of ongoing investigations into serious offenses including rapes, sexual assaults, and aggravated burglary. Out of the arrested individuals, seven have been remanded in custody facing various charges while the rest are on bail pending further inquiries. This operation follows a bigger sweep in late 2022, where 77 men were detained for serious crimes, emphasizing the police's sustained efforts to combat violence against women and girls and rebuild public trust.
I am absolutely committed to ensuring that we have everything in place to respond robustly and at pace to violence against women and girls, and also to provide victims and those at risk with the compassionate and effective support they need.
Violence against women and girls has no place in London and I fully support the action by the Met to go after high-harm offenders and make our streets safer.
