DLR trains slow down as TfL reviews signalling system, affecting some routes
Briefly

Tom Page, TfL's General Manager for the DLR, stated, 'As part of an ongoing review of the DLR's signalling system, we identified some sections of the DLR network that needed a small reduction in train speed. We are sorry for the disruption this is causing to some customers and are looking at ways we can minimise any impact.' This reflects TfL's proactive approach to safety.
The Docklands Light Railway system has a complex network of speed regulations, with a maximum speed of 100kph for trains, but the average speed across the entire network is much lower, approximately 64kph. The decision to reduce speeds, by 5km per hour in certain areas, was made after a review aimed at ensuring the safety and efficiency of the service.
Despite the reductions, passengers are likely to experience a minimal delay, with journey times only extending by a couple of minutes at most. TfL assures that these adjustments are essential to maintain safety and to deal with ongoing challenges in train deployment, particularly given the delays in introducing new rolling stock.
