Dalston fire victims demand support as they remain displaced months later

After a devastating fire in June 2024 that displaced all 50 residents of a Dalston housing block, victims are seeking help from their landlord, Peabody housing association. Residents like Elizabeth Oppong, who lost everything in the fire, have faced multiple relocations, inadequate accommodations, and communication failures from Peabody. With their living situations unstable and incidents of poor support, residents feel abandoned and demand greater transparency and assistance as they wait to return to their homes.

I'm happy that they've put us in a nice place, but I'm now paying 80 a month for both my daughter and my son to get to school and college.

When visiting the apartment in September, removal staff broke [our] furniture up in front of my eyes and chucked it over the balcony. It was like our stuff was nothing, after 27 years.
