TfL spent nearly 22m cracking down on fare dodging across the Tube and bus network, with a total of 1.3m collected in penalty charges. Fare evasion across all TfL services dropped slightly from 3.9% to 3.8% despite a rise of 300 million journeys.
TfL highlighted that fare evasion goes beyond lost ticket costs as it can involve intimidation and abuse towards staff and customers. The transport body emphasized the harmful impact of fare dodging in response to a Freedom of Information request on the matter.
