Competition to find Havering's 'unsung heroes' launches to mark Liberty line
Briefly

London's deputy mayor for transport, Seb Dance, emphasized, "The London Overground line connecting Romford and Upminster will become the Liberty line in autumn, in celebration of Havering's rich local history." He noted the initiative fosters community participation, as it consolidates local heritage and enhances the accessibility of London’s transport system. This rebranding not only honors local culture but also provides a platform for residents to celebrate their contributions to the community.
The competition encourages nominations for 'unsung heroes' and offers exciting prizes such as an exclusive cab ride and a behind-the-scenes tour of a railway control centre. It’s an invitation for residents to recognize individuals who have made a special impact in their community, enhancing the ties between local history and contemporary transport initiatives.
Residents can submit nominations through forms available at Romford and Upminster stations, or via email. The competition will run until September 15, with winners chosen by station staff, fostering a sense of community involvement in the new Liberty line's launch.
