Classic Art London rises from the ashes of London Art Week
Briefly

Classic Art London (CAL) is set to debut from 23 June to 6 July, responding to the closure of London Art Week (LAW). After a decade of successful events, LAW ceased operations due to financial struggles exacerbated by the pandemic and sponsor withdrawal. KEY figures like Stephen Ongpin, LAW's chairman, lamented the loss yet recognized the necessity of summer art events. The CAL initiative, led by Pippa Roberts and Silke Lohmann, aims to maintain visibility for pre-contemporary art galleries and provide platforms for dealers to connect with global art collectors and curators.
This summer will see the first iteration of Classic Art London (CAL) from 23 June to 6 July, aiming to fill the void left by London Art Week.
Ongpin stated, 'I think a collegial event like LAW needs to happen every summer in London, and if something similar did happen this year, I'd be very happy to participate.'
The CAL campaign is organized by Pippa Roberts and Silke Lohmann, aiming to sustain and promote London galleries in the pre-contemporary art market.
Lohmann emphasized the importance of continuing to shine a light on the pre-contemporary art market, providing opportunities for dealers to share expertise.
