Imran Chowdhury, 25, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court where he pleaded not guilty to aiding former soldier Daniel Khalife, who escaped from prison.
Chowdhury was arrested in January 2024 and charged with one count of assisting an escaped prisoner under the Criminal Justice Act 1961.
District Judge Briony Clarke noted the seriousness of Chowdhury's charge, indicating it could not be handled at the magistrates' court level.
Khalife, 23, was previously convicted of spying for Iran and had already admitted to escaping from HMP Wandsworth.
