Bank station was evacuated at around 5pm after smoke was reported from a southbound Northern line train, causing Transport for London to close the station temporarily.
A spokesperson noted there was smoke from a faulty train, confirming emergency protocols were in place with fire brigade and emergency services dealing with the situation.
Eyewitnesses described the scene, mentioning a noticeable smell of burning and visible smoke emanating from the carriage while emergency services responded promptly.
