An Australian tourist and two friends encountered severe flooding in their ground-floor hotel room after heavy rain, forcing them to leave before midnight and find alternative accommodation. The group had spent years saving for the trip to mark milestone birthdays. Booking.com initially told the group they would receive a refund, but the refund did not appear during the remainder of the trip. The hotel said it approved a refund but could not process it due to payment system problems at Booking.com and said blocked drainage and exceptional rainfall contributed to the flooding. The guests described escalating hazards as water entered light switches and electrical outlets.
