Southeastern Railway announced timetable changes for autumn, effective from October 13 to December 14, where morning services may depart a few minutes earlier to counteract issues caused by leaf fall.
The adjustments are responding to the seasonal challenge of around 50 million leaves falling onto tracks, which create a slippery layer similar to black ice, making it harder for trains to stop.
In proactive measures, Southeastern operates 'leaf-busting' trains fitted with water jets and adhesion modifier to enhance wheel grip, helping ensure smoother train operations despite adverse conditions.
Passengers are urged to monitor services daily as train frequencies might decrease at certain stations in adverse weather, highlighting the impact of leaves on operational efficiency during autumn.
