Affordable homes being built in London falls to lowest level of Sadiq Khan's eight years in City Hall
Briefly

The number of affordable homes being built in London has significantly declined, resulting in only 2,358 homes started with City Hall funding in 2023-24, the lowest level under Sadiq Khan.
The cross-party assembly highlighted an urgent need for affordable housing, noting that over 65,280 Londoners currently reside in temporary accommodations, with 323,637 on council waiting lists.
Despite a previous year of record starts, with 25,658 homes initiated in 2022/23, the drastic drop in current figures reflects severe market challenges faced by developers.
To meet government targets, Mr. Khan must commence between 23,900 to 27,100 homes by March 2026, yet only 1,777 have started by this March.
