A vast new 13 million cycle route is coming to northwest London
"Cycleway 72 is a game‑changer for our borough. For too long, people in this part of Brent have faced busy roads, unsafe crossings and barriers that cut communities in half."
"The pathway between Wembley and Willesden Junction has been identified as one of London's locations with the greatest potential for future cycling demand, but TfL says people will only cycle there if there's the infrastructure to do so."
A new £13 million cycleway, C72, will connect Wembley Central and Harlesden, improving cycling safety in northwest London. The route will follow quieter streets and include protected sections to minimize traffic impact. Harrow Road will feature a segregated cycle lane, addressing safety concerns highlighted by 90 collisions from 2018 to 2020. The initiative aims to boost cycling demand, with 87 percent of respondents in a 2023 consultation supporting the scheme. The project is a collaboration between TfL and Brent Council, enhancing pedestrian routes as well.
