Non-viable foetuses are currently collected in batches and buried at City of London Cemetery. Upminster Cemetery offers a more local and attractive alternative.
The bereavement services at Havering Council will charge 250 for burying non-viable foetuses, with the fee in line with similar services in London. The added income is expected to bring in around 3,000 a year.
Bereavement services will provide a sensitive and delicate service for those who have lost babies at an early stage in pregnancy. A fitting memorial will be installed in an unused part of the children's graveyard.
