Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder condemned fans who verbally abused players following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Oxford United. Wilder highlighted the team's potential to set a club record for consecutive away wins and criticized fans for not appreciating the players' efforts throughout the season. Despite the loss, which left Sheffield United in second place in the Championship, he stated that such behavior is inconsistent with the support the team normally receives. Wilder called for fans' support to uplift the players ahead of their next match against Millwall.
"I think it's an absolute disgrace to the players that represent the football club and what they have done this season," Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"If that's what you think of the players then when we do have the good days then don't be clapping, go home, be consistent."
"We had an opportunity of breaking a club record that has lasted about 350 years. We just weren't good enough and you know what? That's sometimes how football is."
"We'll need it on Tuesday night because we've got to lift the players because they're disappointed about what happened on Saturday."
