Sligo survive the first half and thrive in the second to see off Down and lift the All-Ireland U-20 'B' title
Sligo won the All-Ireland U-20 'B' championship final at Glenisk O'Connor Park. Sligo stayed close to Down in the first half, with Down scoring through Ruairí Madine, Daniel McKernan, and Conor Rocks. A defensive error allowed Adam Feeney to score a goal and keep the teams level at halftime. In the second half, Sligo dominated after Aaron Laing and Eli Rooney were unavailable. Eamon O'Mahony and captain Conor Walsh controlled midfield, with Walsh earning man of the match for driving runs and three points. Conor Langan added three points in five minutes to extend the lead. Down’s early goal attempts were stopped, and Oisín Murphy’s second-half point came when Sligo were nine ahead with under ten minutes remaining.
"The winners held the Down to just two points in a surprisingly one-sided second half. Ruairí Madine, Daniel McKernan and Conor Rocks kicked some fine points for Down in the opening half, but a defensive error opened the door for Adam Feeney to nick a goal and keep the sides level at the turnaround."
"The second half was one-way traffic as Sligo, shorn of their two star attackers (Aaron Laing and Eli Rooney), poured through the middle and quickly piled on the points. Eamon O'Mahony and team captain Conor Walsh were dominant at midfield, with Walsh picking up the man-of-the-match award on the back of three excellent points from driving runs, while three points in five minutes from Conor Langan were crucial to put further distance between the sides."
"Down started chasing goals early, but a couple of speculative efforts were easily gathered by Gareth Cummins, and by the time Oisín Murphy hit what was just their second point of the half, Sligo were nine clear with less than ten minutes to play, and assured of their win."
