Maksym Talovierov, a Plymouth defender, recounts the emotional toll of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He wakes daily to distressing news of bombings in Kyiv, where his parents reside. Communication is often disrupted, intensifying his anxiety. Talovierov expresses gratitude towards the soldiers, many of whom are friends, fighting for their homeland. Despite his struggles, he finds support from fans and locals in Plymouth, highlighting supportive gestures that have eased his transition and provided him with a sense of community during these trying times.
It's really hard because for three years every morning I wake up and I see a lot of notifications about rockets and missiles in every city, including Kyiv, where my parents are.
Sometimes they might not have a connection or wifi and then it's stressful because they don't respond and you don't know what's going on.
I appreciate it a lot. Some of our soldiers are my friends, friends of friends, parents of international teammates. They joined the army to help our country.
I have already felt the love around the place I now call home.
