Leinster fan bags a bed in Bilbao thanks to Heineken 0.0
A Leinster supporter’s handmade sign offering a spare bed in Bilbao gained attention after being photographed at a Champions Cup semi-final. Heineken 0.0° launched a campaign called “Find a Room for Andrew” to spread the message across Spain before the final against Bordeaux in Bilbao. The campaign used billboards, radio ads, and digital vans to reach Bilbao’s residents. Andrew received messages and ultimately connected with Jon, a Spanish rugby fan who plays for Universitario Bilbao Rugby, who offered him a place to stay. Jon also helped with a spare ticket and ensured Andrew could attend wearing a Leinster jersey. The two discovered shared rugby backgrounds despite never meeting before.
"Ahead of the match, Andrew said: "It's honestly mad, but in the best possible way. Heineken 0.0° put me on billboards and radio ads in Spain. We didn't know if anything would come of it, but it did. I got a message yesterday from a passionate Spanish rugby fan, so my bed is now sorted for the final. It has saved me a fortune.""
"The Heineken 0.0° backed campaign reached Bilbao's 350,000 residents with a city-wide billboard takeover in the lead up to last Saturday's 2026 Investec Champions Cup Final. Andrew's plea for a bed was shared across billboards, radio stations, and digital vans throughout the city."
"The good news is that it has all worked out perfectly. The campaign led to a Spanish rugby fan named Jon, who plays for Universitario Bilbao Rugby, getting in touch and kindly offering Andrew a place to stay. Andrew said: "Heineken 0.0° even helped sort him a spare ticket, and he cannot go to the match without a Leinster jersey, which I made sure he got.""
"Despite never having met before, the two quickly discovered they had plenty in common. Both are rugby coaches, and Jon had even coached and played with Suttonians, a rival club to Andrew's side, Old Wesley. It just goes to show that tans really do have more friends."
