The London City Lionesses have been promoted to the Women's Super League (WSL) following a 2-2 draw against Birmingham City. Isobel Goodwin's early second-half goal and a subsequent goal from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah propelled the Lionesses to secure the necessary point for promotion. Formed in 2019 and under the ownership of Michele Kang since December 2023, London City is now the lone independent club in England's top two tiers of women's football. Kang has invested heavily in the club, implementing changes to ensure they rise in the WSL and aim for Champions League qualification.
"London City Lionesses have secured promotion to the Women’s Super League after a 2-2 draw with fellow contenders Birmingham City, thanks to a goal from Isobel Goodwin."
"Only three players from the 2022-23 season remain, with high-profile signings such as Saki Kumagai and Kosovare Asllani brought in to help power the club's rise."
