Itoje set to be named British and Irish Lions captain
Briefly

Maro Itoje is set to officially become the captain of the British and Irish Lions for their upcoming tour in Australia, marking a significant milestone as the first Englishman to lead since Martin Johnson in 2001. Itoje, who has previously toured with the Lions, has proven his leadership capabilities while captaining England in the Six Nations. Former Lions player Matt Dawson praised Itoje's transformation into a formidable leader, highlighting his improved form and discipline. The announcement will occur live at the O2 Arena and will reveal the rest of the Lions squad alongside Itoje's leadership role.
Maro has blossomed beautifully this season for England. He has gone from being a player who was a certainty to be in the team...to being right in the groove.
The captaincy has given him a new lease of life and he is ready to step into the role for the Lions.
Given Itoje's outstanding performances for his country for the best part of a decade, it was a surprise he had to wait until the age of 30 to assume the England captaincy.
Itoje will lead a party of around 40 players, and will tour with the Lions for the third time.
