Amandine Miquel, now the manager of Leicester City's Women's Super League team, reflects on her early experiences in football. At age 12, she moved to London from Mexico, adapting to a more restrained style of goalkeeping than she was used to. After a telling off from her Chelsea coach for attacking during a corner, she transitioned from goalkeeper to midfielder. Playing alongside future star Fara Williams, Miquel recognized her own limitations and decided to shift her focus towards coaching rather than pursuing a playing career.
It was then that Miquel was plucked out of goal and placed in midfield to feature alongside a dazzling young talent in Fara Williams.
I looked at her and thought to myself, you are not making it and she is going to make a big career.
