Joey Barton, a former Premier League midfielder, has been denied bail after being charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been in custody since March 10 and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court. Judge David Potter refused the bail application during a hearing, which was mostly held in private. Barton is scheduled to appear again at Liverpool Crown Court on April 7. He is accused, along with co-defendant Gary O'Grady, of attacking Kevin Lynch on March 8.
