Joey Barton, a former Premier League midfielder, has been denied bail after being charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been in custody since March 10 and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court. Judge David Potter refused the bail application during a hearing, which was mostly held in private.
