Stan Collymore reflects on the need for reform in England's national team selection. He praises the inclusion of Dan Burn and Miles Lewis-Skelly but argues that players should be chosen based on their performance rather than their club's stature. Specifically, he notes that Morgan Gibbs-White's late addition seemed driven by media attention rather than merit. Collymore advocates for a more just recognition of talent among players from lower-tier clubs in the Premier League, calling for a shift away from bias towards larger clubs.
In my opinion, we need to start rewarding players that play well regardless of the team that they play for in the Premier League, and that is a massive argument with the Nottingham Forest boys. For me, Morgan Gibbs-White was undoubtedly only brought in to the England squad as a late call-up because of the media attention that his omission received.
It’s a great story for Dan Burn winning the Carabao Cup before getting his first call-up. His form for Newcastle has been very good.
