Brighton & Hove Albion has secured an agreement to sign Sunderland's promising 18-year-old forward Tommy Watson for a fee of up to £10 million, effective in July. After being pursued in previous transfer windows and showcasing talent with 17 first-team appearances, Watson is set to join Brighton on a four-year contract. Though struggling with injuries this season, Watson made headlines with a standout performance against Stoke City. Brighton's technical director highlighted his potential and aims for him to focus on finishing the season strong with Sunderland.
"Tommy is an exciting young talent who we have been tracking for a significant period of time," Brighton's technical director David Weir stated.
"He's had an excellent breakthrough season with Sunderland, and we are looking forward to him joining us in the summer," Weir added.
Watson will officially join Brighton on a four-year deal, with the club expressing confidence in his potential despite his current injury struggles.
Sunderland’s Watson caught attention with his performance, particularly scoring twice against Stoke City in December, highlighting his capabilities as a forward.
