A Mass. youth soccer club says it sent nearly half a million dollars to a company for a European trip. Now it's allegedly ghosting them.
""It was a capstone event of their journey in soccer with the club. Most of these kids have been playing together since kindergarten. This is the culminating event for them for all those years of hard work.""
""As recently as early April, the club's director of coaching had received confirmation that the trip would move forward. However, during an April 4 meeting, GoPlay Sports informed the club that it did not have sufficient funds for the trip.""
The Lexington United Soccer Club, a nonprofit, faced a significant financial loss of approximately $450,000 when GoPlay Sports, a travel agency, canceled a planned trip to Scotland and London for 55 players. The trip was intended as a culmination of years of soccer for the players. Despite prior confirmations, the agency informed the club less than two weeks before departure that it could not fulfill the trip due to insufficient funds and rising travel costs. GoPlay Sports has not filed for bankruptcy as of the latest records.
