The Trump administration has aggressively addressed alleged antisemitism on college campuses, recently canceling $400 million in federal funding to Columbia University. This decision follows a trend of investigations into 60 colleges for their handling of reported antisemitism. Kenneth Stern—who helped develop the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism—warns that such measures may unintentionally threaten the safety of Jewish students and risk silencing anti-Israel discourse. Stern notes a generational shift among Jewish students towards anti-Zionism, which complicates the dialogue around antisemitism and political expression.
"It puts pro-Israel Jewish students in a situation where they may be seen as trying to suppress speech rather than answer it," Stern said.
"The only people weaponizing antisemitism are the liberal activists pushing Hamas propaganda on colleges and across our nation," said Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields.
