Signs of new life: is the British left making a comeback?
Briefly

In the last week, 100 individuals joined Majority, a progressive coalition in north-east England advocating for wealth taxes and public ownership of utilities. This reflects a rising grassroots movement spurred by dissatisfaction with Labour's handling of benefits and human rights issues. Initiatives like We Deserve Better and Collective are emerging, alongside independent candidates gaining electoral success. Corbyn's triumph as an independent and positive results for pro-Palestine campaigns indicate a growing leftist confidence and determination to pursue their political objectives.
In the past week alone, 100 people have signed up to Majority, a progressive coalition based in the north-east of England that advocates for wealth taxes, public ownership of important utilities and upholding universal human rights.
As well as Majority, there is We Deserve Better, set up by the activist and Guardian columnist Owen Jones, who left the Labour party after 24 years, which is raising funds to support alternative candidates.
Independent candidates on the left have done well at national and local elections. Corbyn, who was banned from standing as a Labour candidate in last year's election, won handsomely as an independent.
There are clear signs of renewed confidence and willingness to take on those standing in the way of their principles and goals.
