Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced the reinstatement of compulsory military service, set to last for 75 days, as the country strengthens its military capabilities.
Vucic emphasized the necessity of a strong army, stating, 'We don't want to attack anyone. Nor will we do so. But we want to deter those who threaten us with savage relentlessness every day.'
The proposal for reinstating compulsory military service requires approval from both the government and parliament, where Vucic's party holds a significant majority.
While the service will be mandatory for men, women will still have the option to serve voluntarily, reflecting a selective approach to mandatory conscription.
