The Defendant, DONALD J. TRUMP, was a candidate for President of the United States in 2020. He lost the 2020 presidential election, but despite this, he was determined to remain in power.
For more than two months following election day on November 3, 2020, the Defendant spread lies that there had been outcome-determinative fraud in the election and that he had actually won, knowing these claims were false.
The Defendant used his campaign to disseminate these false claims to create a national atmosphere of mistrust and anger, intending to undermine public confidence in the election.
As a candidate and a citizen, the Defendant had a right to speak publicly about the election, including to challenge the results through lawful means, but his actions crossed a line.
