"We discovered that several ballots had been cast by people that were counted in our records as being present at our meetings or eligible to vote," said interim president Melissa Hernández today. "When we did an audit we realized several of them were not eligible to vote."
"We called the special meeting to make sure that we can safeguard the integrity of our endorsement process," said Hernández. "It was necessary for the club's transparency to call for the emergency meeting and the new vote after learning the ineligible votes had swung a couple races in a different direction."
Following recommendation from their attorney, Scott Emblidge, club leaders said they were not in a position to share any information about the compromised process as this is an open investigation. Hernández said, however, they expected a final resolution within 30 days.
The club's bylaws say members are eligible if they have paid their annual fees and if they have attended at least three general meetings, or membership-qualifying events in the previous 12 months.
