Georgetown Law Students Petition To Keep Their School From Becoming An ICE Recruitment Center - Above the Law
"More than 1,100 students, graduates and student organizations have signed the petition calling on Georgetown Law and the George Washington University Law School, which is jointly hosting the event, to remove ICE and DHS from the Public Sector Recruiting Program (PSRP), a virtual career fair for students interested in working in the public sector. The petition also asks the universities not to invite ICE and DHS to any future career fairs or school events."
"This is the exact sort of behavior you'd expect after JD Vance and The Pop-Tart Man go about telling the poorly trained slave catchers demanding freedom papers that they have absolute or federal immunity to fuck with whomever they please. Despite JD Vance's black eyeliner crocodile tears about how he's the real victim because enabling Trump's secret police made it hard for him to enjoy Disneyland with his kids, the social consequences of being associated with ICE continue."
Georgetown Law remains a strong route for careers in government, but association with ICE carries reputational risk. ICE-related deaths have increased, and incidents of lawlessness include agents allegedly violating civil rights, boxing in an off-duty female officer, demanding papers, pulling guns, and knocking down a phone during filming. Over 1,100 students, alumni, and organizations signed a petition demanding that Georgetown Law and George Washington University Law School remove ICE and DHS from the Public Sector Recruiting Program and refrain from inviting them to future events. Political moves granting impunity to enforcement agents are cited as worsening social consequences for affiliation with ICE.
