The Miami-Dade Elections Department declined a request from Alex Otaola's campaign for a recount, citing state law which requires a close vote margin for such actions.
Otaola questioned the election results after finishing third, demanding a recount despite being more than 34 percentage points behind the incumbent, Daniella Levine Cava.
In her response, elections official Vanessa Innocent emphasized that recounts are not conducted upon request, and Otaola received only 12% of the vote.
Otaola's campaign manager indicated that a recount was essential due to the nature of the results, despite Levine Cava's significant lead in the election.
