This was, by far, the most important speech of Harris' political career, and it was in front of the biggest audience she's ever spoken to – not the crowd of thousands in-person but the millions watching at home.
Harris tried to make her story – one of a child of immigrants from India and Jamaica – a typical and relatable American one. She shared her journey of being raised working class, with a mother who dreamed big and stressed the all-American values of hard work and resilience.
Harris and Democrats flipped the script in this convention on a lot of GOP attacks against them. They emphasized values of common sense and reclaimed blue-collar identity, while standing up for veterans.
She not only sought to introduce herself but also framed her narrative in a way that connected with those who may be undecided or critical, presenting her story as part of the American experience.
