"Tom Curran (80) does not think he will see changes to legislation in his lifetime"
"Tom Curran, the partner of the late Marie Fleming, does not believe he will ever see legislation for assisted dying enacted in Ireland."
"Ms Fleming, who died with multiple sclerosis (MS) more than a decade ago, and Mr Curran challenged the law in 2012 when she sought to have him legally administer a fatal dose of a drug to her because the illness made it impossible for her to do so."
Tom Curran is 80 and does not expect to witness changes to assisted dying legislation in Ireland. He was the partner of Marie Fleming, who died of multiple sclerosis more than a decade ago. In 2012, Fleming and Curran challenged Irish law after she sought legal permission for Curran to administer a fatal dose because her illness made self-administration impossible. The legal challenge centered on allowing a partner to lawfully assist in dying when severe disability prevents the person from acting alone. Curran believes legislative change toward assisted dying will not occur within his lifetime.
