A court ruling has shed light on the tragic events following the murders of four University of Idaho students in November 2022. Surviving roommate Dylan Mortensen initially thought her friend Xana Kernodle was simply drunk after hearing strange noises in their home. Despite encountering a man in a ski mask, Mortensen did not recognize the gravity of the situation until long after the incident, leading to a delay in calling 911. It was only after extensive messaging between the two surviving roommates that help was finally contacted about eight hours after the killings occurred.
After hearing strange noises and seeing a man in a ski mask, a surviving roommate thought a friend was passed out drunk, delaying the call to police.
The roommates communicated extensively before calling for help, ultimately waiting nearly eight hours after the murders to notify authorities.
