Swedish prosecutor urges prison for man charged with prostituting his wife
A 62-year-old man in Härnösand is on trial for allegedly prostituting his wife to around 120 clients. The prosecution alleges he created internet advertisements, arranged paid meetings with men who responded, and pressured his wife to perform sexual acts online to attract more clients. Selling sex is legal in Sweden, but buying sex is illegal, and facilitating or profiting from prostitution is also illegal. He faces charges of aggravated pimping and eight rapes for acts committed between August 2022 and October 2025. The wife is described as a vulnerable victim and is seeking damages equivalent to $120,000 if he is convicted.
"A Swedish prosecutor has called for a 10-year prison sentence against a man on trial for allegedly prostituting out his wife to around 120 clients. The court proceedings against the 62-year-old defendant, in the town of Harnosand, were largely being conducted behind closed doors."
"He is accused of having created internet adverts, arranging the paid meetings between the men who answered and his spouse, and pushing her to perform sexual acts online to attract more clients. Although selling sex is not illegal in Sweden, buying sex is, and facilitating or profiting from prostitution is also illegal."
"The man has been charged with aggravated pimping and eight rapes for acts committed between August 2022 and October 2025. The wife, who was described by the prosecution as a victim "in a vulnerable situation", is demanding the equivalent of $120,000 in damages should he be found guilty."
""He treated her like a bank card and sold her like merchandise," the woman's lawyer, Silvia Ingolfsdottir, told public broadcaster SVT. The man's defence lawyer, Martina Michaelsdotter, told AFP at the start of the trial that her client denied the charges."
